About the Artist

I received my BFA in design with an emphasis on ceramics and glass from the University of Kansas. After graduating, I set up a glass casting studio and continued my studies through workshops and residencies with some of the world’s best casters for many years.

My first love is glass, but the casting and finishing processes required many steps from model to polished sculpture. I craved something more immediate, so I began making abstract paintings. Meanwhile, I began seeing photographs that had an interesting, painterly quality and I was captivated, later learning that they were created using intentional camera movement (ICM). A whole new world of possibilities opened. Focusing on photography has led me to explore techniques like layering and photo manipulation and it has been the focus of my work in recent years. I consider myself an artist who uses a camera.

The element of chance runs through all my work. Early in my career it was how fire, smoke, and minerals affect a ceramic piece; how colorful glass flows into a mold; or the way paint moves on canvas. Now it’s the magic that happens when I move my camera or layer one image upon another.
